Dingle

Only an hour’s drive from Killarney, Dingle is a picturesque fishing village situated on the Dingle Peninsula on the far west of the county.  A boat ride around Dingle Bay is a must. Dingle Aquarium is a great place to spend an afternoon.

Dingle oysters and other seafood are available from restaurants and food trucks by the harbour, and a good point from which to explore the magnificent Slea Head Drive, a coastal route that takes in incredible views of the Atlantic, and the Dunn Chaoin interpretive centre from which boat trips to The Blasket Islands can be taken.

Parts of Slea Head and Dingle provided the setting for films such as The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara (a frequent visitor to Kerry and Dingle), Ryan’s Daughter with Robert Mitchum and Far & Away with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Indeed, a good time to make your trip to Dingle is during the Dingle International Film Festival and the Dingle Food Festival.
